Congratulations and thanks to all participants who joined the Dissemination Workshop for the ‘SUN CSA Study on Impacts of Inflation on Food Security in Laos’! We had almost 50 people in person and online from INGOs, CSOs, UN, donors and the government sector discussing the study results and sharing their lessons and experiences implementing food security projects.
The SUN CSA Food Security Study found that 91% of Lao households faced challenges meeting the cost of living for their families in the past 12 months. Almost half the households had run out of food in the past year and 11% had not eaten for an entire day due to food shortages. These results are concerning and all participants discussed how they are currently responding to support Lao families increase their incomes and improve their quality of life.
We were honored to have our Co-Chairpersons, Mr. Anthony Glanville from CARE International in Lao PDR, and Ms. Chanthalangsy Sisouvanh from RDA open the meeting. We thank our guests who joined the panel discussion to share the experiences on what they have done on the food security field including Mr. Ounkeo Pathamavong from Plan International, Ms. Priyanka Basnet from SNV, Mr. Somsamai Vongthilath from MAF, Rumbidzayi Machiridza from WFP and our SUN CSA Co-Chairs.
We also discussed the SUN CSA organisations’ plans to share the results from this study and to work together to respond to the growing food security needs across Lao PDR.
The SUN CSA website has many resources to better understand the food security situation in Laos. We encourage everyone to take a look and share their resources
Thanks to everyone who joined our meetings. This survey would never have happened without the collaboration and commitment from our SUN CSA members.
