Household Food Security
Introduction to Household Food Security in Lao PDR
Families in Lao PDR have been facing multiple challenges in recent years. Since 2020, the COVID pandemic reduced many people’s livelihoods and incomes. Since 2022, global inflation and currency devaluation have both negatively impacted the Lao economy, with inflation reaching 40% in January 2023. These economic challenges have made it increasingly harder for Lao families to provide for themselves and it has increased food insecurity nationally.
SUN CSA member organisations are aware of the challenges and working to improve food security. In partnership with the Government of Lao PDR, as well as other stakeholders in the SUN Laos, including international donors and the UN, civil society organisations are looking for solutions and working to mitigate these challenges.
This page aims to collect resources and tools that can help all stakeholders to work on improving food security in Lao PDR. Below, you will find surveys and reports related to the food insecurity issues in Laos and recommendations on how to respond.
Please share any documents or resources you have with the SUN CSA Secretariat, who can add to this page and share to all stakeholders.
Together we can help Lao families increase their food security and improve their nutrition.
