SUN CSA congratulates the 35 workplaces in Laos who won the SUN Laos ‘Workplace-Friendly Breastfeeding Awards’ for their dedication to supporting breastfeeding staff.
The Awards were presented by Dr. Southisouk Inthavilay, SUN CSA Management Committee Co-Chair and Deputy Director of the Promotion of Family Health Association (PFHA) along with other co-chairs at the National Lao World Breastfeeding Celebration at the University of Health Sciences on Tuesday 6th August.
Workplaces are scored using the 10 best practices for workplace breastfeeding in Laos, with bonus points for workplaces with breastfeeding spaces. This year 3 workplaces achieved a Bronze Award, 8 workplaces achieved Silver Awards, 9 workplaces achieved Gold Awards and 14 workplaces achieved Platinum Awards. Participation has more than doubled since the first awards in March 2023 and 32% more working mothers are breastfeeding in their workplace.
Dr. Southisouk explained: “These awards are an initiative by our civil society organisations under the SUN CSA Network in 2023, and they are now open to all workplaces in Lao PDR. They recognize the significant strides made by progressive workplaces in ensuring that breastfeeding support is available to all working parents. By fostering inclusive environments and providing essential resources, these organizations are making a profound impact on the health and well-being of families across the country.”
