Test New Project

The Accelerating Healthy Agriculture and Nutrition (AHAN) Project is an integrated-nutrition initiative funded by the European Union and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to create supportive conditions for enhanced household (HH) nutrition, with targeted support to women of reproductive age and children under five years old, implemented in 12 districts of Attapeu, Saravane and Savannakhet provinces in Southern Laos.

The project draws on the unique technical and organisational strengths of each partner to implement integrated, multi-sectoral interventions in line with the convergence approach outlined by the National Nutrition Strategy and Plans of Action (2016-2020 and 2021-2025). The project covers the period October 2017 to September 2022 (60 months) for the European Union-funded part, and an additional 9 months for Saravane province with the support of DFAT.

AHAN is implemented by a consortium of four partners: Agronomes et Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (AVSF), Burnet Institute Green Community Development Association (GCDA), and World Vision as the lead.

The AHAN Project aims to create supportive conditions for enhanced household (HH) nutrition through five Specific Objectives or Outcomes:

Outcome 1: Improved access to and availability of sufficient and/or diverse foods year-round;

Outcome 2: Improved dietary and care practices among women of reproductive age (15-45 years) and children under 5 years;

Outcome 3: Reduced incidence of selected Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) related diseases/illness linked to undernutrition;

Outcome 4: Improved gender equitable relation at the household level, particularly in decision-making and distribution of workload;

Outcome 5: Strengthen multi-sector coordination and support for nutrition.
