Assessment of Micronutrientrelated Policy and Guidance in Lao PDR

Micronutrients are essential dietary components required by the body (1). They are comprised of vitamins and minerals (1). These micronutrients play a multifaceted role, facilitating the synthesis of enzymes, hormones, and other vital substances essential for normal growth and development (2). Therefore, deficiencies can precipitate severe, potentially life-threatening conditions (2). Prevalent globally, deficiencies in iron, vitamin A, and iodine are most frequently observed, especially among children and pregnant women (1). Approximately 42% of children under the age of 5 and 40% of pregnant women globally are estimated to experience anemia (1).
